Vintage weddings
Vintage weddings are perhaps one of the biggest stylistic explosions of recent years, following the trend for vintage styling in clothes and home décor. A number of photographers have built excellent brands concentrating on taking vintage style wedding photographs. However, if you’re not having a vintage styled wedding then there’s not much point having a vintage photographer.
Modern wedding photography
By this I mean wedding photography with vibrant colours, heads cut off pictures, photographs of feet, the sort of pictures your Mum probably isn’t going to really get and unless she’s a super cool Mum, she’s unlikely to put them up on the wall. If you’re into this style though I believe they can be very striking and create a real talking point.
Trash the dress/Rock the frock
Don’t know what to do with your wedding dress after the big day? Why not have a photo shoot after the wedding where you ‘Trash’ your dress, either in the sea, rolling around in a field or stood in a derelict building. Alternatively, you could have a ‘Rock the frock’ shoot. This is similar to ‘Trash the dress’ in that you get to wear your wedding dress again for a photo shoot, but this is more of a fashion shoot with the bride in a stunning or uber-cool location.
Black and white
Ok, so black and white isn’t exactly a new trend, obviously there was a time when you could only have black and white images, but recently I was asked to do a wedding with just black and white images. I was more than happy to do this, as I love monochrome. The pictures always look classy, have a great feel to them and are timeless. An all black and white wedding might not be to everyone’s taste, but it certainly provides some stunning images.”

I had the opportunity to catch up with Jesse & Brad for some engagement photos. Brad is one hell of a beast when he sits under the glow of the tree that signals the start of a drag race.
While these images are far more tame…..I will be updating the gallery with a few not so traditional engagement photos later on.
Thanks so much to Brad & Jesse for allowing us to do their engagement photo shoot & entrusting their wedding day photography to us as well.

Best Engagement & Wedding Photography
Palmettophoto1.com recently had the opportunity to photograph the amazing wedding of Clayton and David at the war memorial building in Great Falls, SC.. We met the couple just a few short weeks prior to their wedding to do their engagement photo shoot and made an instant connection.
Seldom do we encounter folks that are as easy going as these two. Their charming and open personalities were abundantly on display for the ceremony that celebrated their commitment to each other.
Crisp clean rustic décor created a welcoming experience for all those in attendance. We walked in only knowing the couple, and walked with at least a handful of new friends. Now thats an amazing atmosphere for a wedding.
Robust succulents paired with burlap and splashes Spanish moss and navy blue created an amazing textural depth to the décor of the formal hall of the war memorial building. A reception for friends and guests took place in a spacious naturally lit dining room outfitted with crisp linens to carry the theme through.
Soon after the usual speeches and a full course dinner the party began. Enjoying every moment, dancers immediately took to the floor and remained there until the conclusion of the evening.
In keeping with the succulent theme, I must say I saw quite a few tequila bottles reflecting candle light like beacons helping show the way back to tables dotting the elegant dining hall.
We were so honored to have been invited to help capture this special day for Clayton and David. We love photographing these rustic themed southern weddings, especially when it is as big of a time as this one was.
Thanks guys and we wish you the best!

“Few things evoke nostalgia like the scent of a blooming Magnolia”
Pamettophoto1.com recently had the privilege of photographing the wedding of Laura and Dustin. The Traditional ceremony was held at the historic first United Methodist Church in Cheraw.
The Old Church, which was built in 1822, was decorated with honeysuckle and magnolia. Large native oak trees stood sentinel on the grounds looming tall over the century old crepe myrtle’s in full bloom. The air was thick with the sweet fragrance of the honeysuckle.
What portion of the old church building that was left standing by General Sherman after the civil war now serves as the sanctuary. The long history of such a place casts a noticeable prestige to the days event.
A quick stop at a nearby field thick with fluffy white cotton gave this couple some very unique wedding pictures.
A traditional ceremony was followed by reception at the Greeen River Country club in Chesterfield SC.
Guests of the bride and groom enjoyed Carolina pit cooked barbecue with all the “trimmins”. A congested dance floor was filled with guests the entire night.
Palmettophoto1.com recently had the honor of photographing the rustic southern wedding of Kristen and Steven. In typical southern fashion, the ceremony was a seemless blend of formal elegance and casual tradition.
The venue for the wedding was a rustic log building that was constructed in the 1700’s. In the middle of a hub of bustling urban activity the venue was nestled among ancient moss draped live oaks.
The majestic oaks standing sentinel nearly obscured the location from the unknowing eye. Retrofitted with all the modern appointments and then some, the charming log building exemplified the deep south heritage shared by this couple.
Decor for the event was highlighted with burlap and local ivy grown on location. After a short traditional exchange of vows, and a quick bustle of the Vera Wang gown, the cavernous reception hall was opened.
The reception offerings consisted of fresh boiled peanuts and beer, local wild caught Carolina shrimp in a low-country boil (thats frogmore stew if you are familiar with the local brogue), and of course pit cooked barbecue.
After a full evening of dancing and socializing with their guests, the wedding couple were seen with a gallon of muscadine grape wine making their way to a vintage 1948 Ford pick-up truck that was in immaculate condition aside from the cans trailing behind.
The crowd in attendance gathered to cheer the happy newlyweds as meandered the long winding gravel drive under the light of the crescent Carolina moon.

WoW! Sometimes you just need to stop for some rest. Palmetto Photo 1 recently had the privilege of being involved in the fast paced weekend that was the New York wedding of Jessica and Andrew in Syracuse.
This fun-filled event started on Friday and continued right on through until the wee hours of Monday morning. To say the atmosphere was high energy and “one big party is an understatement”, from the dance competition in the stretch limousine hummer to the somewhat more tame beer tasting from the new cold keg storage in the couples new entertainment room.
Some wedding photographers frown on travel. We relish in the opportunity! While we are without a doubt southern country through and through, we cherish the opportunities wedding photography allows us to kick up our heels.
After the Ceremony, the reception at the Sheraton on the Hill at Syracuse University was an action packed dance party! The DJ from Jammin Beatz had everyone old and young alike on the dance floor for most of the night.
Thanks to all of the participating vendors for being such a pleasure to work with so far from home.
Prestige Limousine of Syracuse for an awesome experience in the stretch hummer that was completely stocked with all of the essentials all of the time!
Jammin Beatz DJ’s for one of the most intense dance competitions I have ever witnessed!
BOVA Photography of Watertown New York.
Sheraton on the Hill at Syracuse University.
St. Margaret’s Catholic church Mattydale New York.
And Burlington of Bridgeport New York for coming to the rescue in a last minute “lost suit coat” debacle.
On behalf of everyone here at Palmetto Photo 1 wedding photography we appreciate the hospitality extended to us during our stay.

OMG! I was so embarrassed. This kinda thing only happens to other people, not me. I have had some embarrassing things happen on photo shoots, but this takes the wedding cake. Literally the most embarrassing moment of my life! The bride I was photographing had asked for bridal portraits in that golden sunshine of the late summer evenings in South Carolina. So we met at the location of the photo shoot just outside of Rock Hill. Everything was good…..a little to good in that eerie sort of way. Warm golden rays of sunshine washed over our location. The bride was beautiful. Her poses were enough to make Glamour magazine purple with jealousy. The pictures were turning out absolutely stunning. We were crushing this bridal portrait session!
The soon to be bride then asked if we could get one more picture by the fountain. She told me about her fiancé’s favorite portrait of her. One of her senior portraits she had taken by the fountain at Glencairn garden in Rock Hill South Carolina. I heard about how the soft summer breeze caught her hair just so, and how the warm rays of golden sunshine fell softly on her neck, and…yeah….I was all in! Then it happened… She struck an elegant flowing pose with more curves than an capital S. I sat on down on the edge of the fountain so that I could capture a silhouette of her hair flowing in the late evening breeze. Then…In true south Carolina fashion, a full grown cow emerged from the hedge surrounding the fountain. No doubt coming by its usual evening watering hole. In my haste to remove myself from the path of the mobile steak I fell backwards camera and all into the beautiful flowing fountain! Love those summer evenings in my Carolina!

Elegant bridesmaid shoot at beautiful Glancairn gardens in Rock Hill, SC. The lush background of the ornate gardens provide the perfect backdrop for photos in the Rock Hill area. This session was on a very hot day but the subjects modeled like it was there business. There elegant, sophisticated business!
The young lady in these images strolled the grounds in her flowing Vera Wang gown and fresh Jimmy Choos. Our session was frequently interrupted by gawking onlookers thinking they may have stumbled onto a magazine shoot.
